Ratargul Swamp Forest

 

This is the renowned swamp forest in Bangladesh where the water is found fresh at its best than all other swamps. Basically swam forests are nature’s creation confined in the climate domains, relating boreal through temperature, and also from subtropical to tropical.

You are most welcome to Sylhet to fulfill the desire of exploring this freshwater swamp forest located in Goainghat. It’s wise for all to visit this forest during monsoon because in other times it remains too dry to roam on the boat. The most exciting part during the journey by boat through those channels is the transparent view on the water that you can clearly see through the bottom layer. The entire forest area covers 3325.61 acres, giving the flavor of Amazon to some extent. Despite this vast area, only 504 acres of land is for the wildlife sanctuary which was declared in 1973. In the time of heavy rainfall, the water level rises  15-20 feet, so you can say its never settled in here.

 

The domination of Koroch and Hizal tree

There are a few interesting facts about the trees in this forest. Starting with the zigzag styled Koroch and Hizal tree. These are known as the major trees of the jungle whose roots are determined in two-levels... One is the usual terms for the trees in the ground, and the other is in the mid-level. This is utilized during the time of monsoon when the whole area is flooded. Watching those roots, anyone could be confused about its source and may think that they were born above water.
